This is a timed 5K and 10K & Kids Fun Run event hosted at Cook Park, Tigard on February 21st, 2026. Gather your friends and family and join us for a morning of movement! In-person and virtual options available.

SCHEDULE
- 8:15AM: Kids Fun Run
- 8:30AM: 10K start
- 8:40AM: 5K Wave 1 (8:30 min/mile or faster)
- 8:45AM: 5K Wave 2 (8:31 – 11:00 min/mile)
- 8:50AM: 5K Wave 3 (11:00+ min/mile, strollers and dogs)






Providence Heart to Start
Providence Heart to Start is a free 5K training program that began in Portland, Oregon in 2012. Since then, this supportive community has inspired a movement where more than 2,500 individuals participate annually from across the nation and around the world. The community of walkers, joggers, and runners train together over twelve weeks leading up to the Providence Heart to Start 5K/10K in partnership with Hood To Coast Race Series.
5K TRAINING PROGRAM
Rather than focusing on speed, we encourage participants to go at their own pace, follow our weekly interval training plan, and walk or run toward a remarkable finish. We believe when joining a team – a community – you have a greater chance for success with your personal health goals that will keep you moving beyond the finish line, long after our season is over.
Heart to Start is powered by Basecamp Prevention + Wellness, part of Providence Heart Institute. Our free community programs are made possible by generous donations through the Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation.
WEEKLY PORTLAND GROUP RUNS
This is a virtually based program. However, if you are local to Portland, Oregon and are seeking an opportunity to connect with other participants, we have a local weekly meetup in SW Portland each Saturday morning during the season.
Season 14 begins November 30, 2025, and wraps just ahead of this family-friendly 5K/10K. Our invitation to you: register for the free 12-week training program and register for the 5K/10K (in-person or virtual) as a great way to keep yourself moving and motivated over the winter months.
AED DONATIONS
Please consider making an additional donation toward The Providence Heart Institute when registering for Heart To Start this year!
The Providence Heart Institute is committed to supporting the health of our communities, no matter where that might be – even out on the racecourse. Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are an important part of any cardiac safety plan to reduce the impact of sudden cardiac arrest. Our goal is to provide free AED’s and training on proper use and maintenance to schools and community organizations throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Since this initiative began in 2017, we have awarded numerous groups and organizations with AEDs through the generosity of others.
Help us create safer community spaces by considering adding a donation to your registration today. Just like the Heart to Start program, donations to support this program are managed by the Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation’s healthier community fund.
Event FAQ
Can I bring a stroller to the race?
Yes, you can bring a stroller. Please line up in the back of the start chute before the race starts to help with course congestion.
Will there be food and beverage?
There will be food trucks and beer for purchase.
What do I get for participating?
All 5K and 10K participants receive a Nike Dri-Fit race shirt, race bib, finisher medal, and swag bag!
